Checking out the new "Twitter Updater"

10 Apr

This is supposed to update Twitter automagically when I’m working on a blog post.  Does it work?

Where are my Jotts?

10 Apr

Has anyone else tried the new service named Jott?  It promises to be a very easy way to record a voice message and have it transcribed automatically.  The Jott, as the messages are each called, is then sent to you via SMS, email, IM, etc.  You can even tell the service WHEN you want to be reminded.

Probably the coolest feature is what you can do with your Jotts.  As I mentioned, you can elect to receive the Jotts through the “normal” communication methods, but the fun is in the APIs.  You can have the Jotts sent automagically to services such as WordPress, Google Calendar, Blogger, Remember The Milk, Twitter, and dozens of others.

Unfortunately, I can’t figure it out.  I Jotted a few things and received emails of a couple of the four or so Jotts I created.  But I didn’t receive any SMS messages or, worse yet, automated blog posts.  This site is a WordPress blog that I host myself and, for some reason, I can’t get Jott to post here.

If anyone has any thoughts, please let me know.  I think Jott could be AWESOME but that awesomeness is limited by its non-functioning manner!

Kicking myself…again

07 Apr

So this guy buys a domain for $20, pays the annual registration fee for nearly 14 years, and then sells it for $2.6 million. The domain: pizza.com.

Back in 1994, when that story began, I had the opportunity to do that exact thing. I used to joke with coworkers and friends that we should buy up a bunch of domain names and sell them at a higher price. Of course, I was thinking about holding onto them for a few months or so and making an easy $100.

But, nooooo, I had to waste my money on a bigger hard drive or another video game. *KICK*

I could use more cowbell

You know how you’re with a group of people and someone uses a phrase and everyone laughs but you’re not sure what the joke is but you laugh too because you figure that if everyone else gets the joke it must be funny and you don’t want to look like an idiot because you’re the only one in the group that doesn’t get the joke?

Me neither.

(So THAT’S where that came from…)

I'm finally on Facebook

05 Apr

While looking for some cool apps one day on my iPhone, I ran across a web app for Facebook.  I decided to start an account to check it out.  Then I promptly forgot about it.

Today, in my Inbox was a request to become friends on Facebook with Joe Hayes, a person I’ve barely talked to since high school.  In fact, I saw him last year for the first time since 1992.  He’s back in the area, raising a family, and still seems to be a nice guy.  (Again – he SEEMS to be.  If you know different, please email me right away!  I’ll post the details here.)

So, I spent some time updating my Facebook profile.  After putting all of the details of my life on the Net for all to enjoy, I explored the site for a while to find out why people like it.  I found it much easier to deal with than MySpace with a cleaner interface and cool mini-applications to add to my profile.  I even found a way to link my Twitter account and this blog to Facebook.  Cool stuff, indeed.

If you haven’t checked out Facebook, I’d suggest you give it a couple of minutes.  You can even add me as a friend – for a limited time only, no autograph requests please.  And I would suggest using the tools to “find friends”.  You just might find someone that you haven’t seen in, oh, 16 years.
